The final score on CPD Rev 2024 – stay tuned for next year’s announcements!

As professionals supporting disabled individuals it’s important to keep up to date on the ever-changing landscape of AT to ensure we are aware of the latest support available. This is where CPD Rev comes in.

I’m not a huge football fan. I’ve never supported a team and I only ever take an interest in the England team if they reach a final. However, this summer while the Euros were taking place, I visited the most northern football stadium in England (St James Park, Newcastle), the most southern football stadium in England (Plymouth Argyle) and the third largest football stadium in England (Etihad stadium, Manchester). Why was a non-football fan visiting these football places of interest? It’s all down to CPD Rev.

What is CPD Rev?

CPD Rev is our live event series which offers a jam-packed day of CPD aimed at accessibility and wellbeing professionals from the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) sector, wider Higher Education sector, and workplace sector. This year the six events took place at the three football stadiums mentioned above as well as a hotel in Bristol and another one in London and a science museum in Birmingham – it was quite an impressive sight-seeing tour of the UK!

Why do we need CPD Rev?

In the world of assistive technology (AT) things are frequently changing. New features or software versions are released, brand new AT can appear from seemingly nowhere, quickly becoming one of the market leaders. As professionals supporting disabled individuals it’s important to keep up to date on the ever-changing landscape of AT to ensure we are aware of the latest support available. This is where CPD Rev comes in.

How do we evolve an annual event series and keep it innovative?

We want everyone to get as much out of CPD Rev as possible. That is why every year we send a feedback survey to both our delegates and our AT partners. We then use this feedback to help shape the next year’s events.

This year, some of the innovations we launched were:

  • Format: We created four AT zones, in each zone delegates could pick to spend either 30-minutes or 15-minutes with each of the two providers in this zone. 30-minute workshops were ideal if you were new to the AT or it’s been a while since you last used it. 15-minute workshops were perfect if you felt confident using the software and wanted a refresher or to know about the latest features and updates. This change enabled room in the schedule for eight AT workshops, providing the most varied CPD available in a day in CPD Rev history.
  • Keynote: In 2023 we received feedback that delegates would like to hear firsthand from students. This year we partnered with Disabled Students UK (DSUK) for our morning keynote address. DSUK is a non-profit community interest research organisation working to improve accessibility in Higher Education. It is run by current and former disabled students, and is best known for its Annual Disabled Student Survey—the largest study of its kind in the UK. This report captures crucial insights from disabled students, offering evidence-based recommendations to make higher education more inclusive for all.
“The keynote Nicky was absolutely brilliant and I learned so much from her lived experience of combined diagnoses. Thank you for your vulnerability and inspiring messages.”
“The first guest speaker provided a powerful context to the rest of the day.”
  • Accessibility: We ensure each CPD Rev event is accessible from both a physical disability and a neurodivergent viewpoint. Each venue had a quiet area that delegates could access at any time throughout the day. At our Manchester venue, The Etihad Stadium, the quiet area was one of the private boxes which overlooked the football pitch. Whilst planning this year’s events we came across this brilliant Venue Access Info Guide by attitude is everything. We took their suggestions on board and created our own accessibility guides for each event detailing everything from travel options to the venue, where to go once you reached the venue and even toileting areas for service animals.
“It was relaxed, informative, everyone was friendly. It was very neurodivergent friendly as well.”
What did you like about the event? “Having the PDFs sent beforehand regarding travel and information about which companies were attending.”

What next for CPD Rev?

As you can imagine hosting six events across the country includes a lot of travelling and what better way to pass the time on the motorways of England than planning CPD Rev 2025? Yes, we started planning next year’s event series before the final whistle had even been blown on this year’s. Obviously most of the details and newly planned innovations for next year are still top secret – but, keep an eye out for CPD Rev 2025 announcements in January

What we can confirm is that there will be no transfers during the 2025 CPD Rev season as we will once again be taking CPD Rev to Birmingham, Bristol, London, Manchester, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Plymouth and the event series will be taking place in June. Following feedback it will once again be a game of two halves as we will be bringing back the 30-minute and 15-minute workshops for 2025.
